TORONTO, Ont. – Toronto Mayor Rob Ford was released from the hospital Thursday afternoon.

Ford spent a second night at Humber River Regional Hospital Wednesday night for treatment of a stomach and throat irritation relating to something he ate.

A statement from his office said he’s undergone a number of tests and is in good spirits.

Meanwhile, the mayor isn’t letting a hospital bed get in the way of doing his job.

Ford’s press secretary George Christopoulos tweeted a picture on Wednesday that shows the mayor in his hospital bed looking over some files.

Ford’s brother, Councillor Doug Ford, visited his brother Thursday morning.

Doctors have identified an irritation in Mayor Rob Ford’s throat and stomach, which aggravated his asthma, so he is being treated for those conditions, his office said in a statement on Wednesday.

The mayor went to the Humber hospital early Tuesday evening.

“The mayor is in good spirits and is resting comfortably,” the statement said. “He is looking forward to going home as soon as doctors allow.”

Christopoulos didn’t say how long the mayor was expected to remain in hospital.

Councillor Doug Ford spoke with CityNews and said that despite that fact that his brother is the mayor, he hopes people will give him a little privacy at this time.

“In my opinion, in Rob’s opinion, people do have the right to know what’s going on with the mayor, or be it the premier or the prime minister. But I think they should give him a little privacy,” Councillor Ford said.

“He’s feeling good. He was alright last night. He was interested in his football picks and was answering his cell phone from the hospital bed. They guy’s a workaholic in my opinion,” Councillor Ford said with a chuckle.

He added that the mayor has had bad asthma his whole life, but he would not speculate on how much of a part that played with the incident.

Ford missed a scheduled news conference earlier in the day on Tuesday about the city’s new private garbage collection because of his ailment.
