LONDON, England – It was a double medal day for Canada in the water at the London 2012 Olympic Games, Wednesday.

Canadian paddlers Adam van Koeverden grabbed silver in the K-1000 final and Mark Oldershaw captured bronze in the C-1000 final.

One of the first people to greet van Koeverden after he crossed the finish line was his mother, Beata.

“I was up in the stands, about half way up, screaming my throat raw,” she said.

Beata said as Adam took an early lead the crowd began to get excited.

“The crowd started a Go Adam Go chant. I think that helped propel him.”

The two men raced back to back, meaning Canadian fans got to witness a double dose of medals.

“Unbelievable. I am so happy and so proud,” one Canadian fan said.

Carrie, an Olympic volunteer and friend of the Oldershaw family said it was a proud day for her too. She got to lead Oldershaw to the medal podium.

“I just was like well done Mark, awesome!”

She said she felt like she wanted to cry but when asked if she thought if she started to cry that Oldershaw would follow suit she said no.

“No, no no no he’s better than that. I’m just a big, wussy girl,” she joked.

Canada now 12th in the standings with 14 medals.
