TORONTO, Ont. – It’s not yet clear what caused a fire in a block of townhouse units in North York.
Several of the units were evacuated around 5:30 a.m. Sunday, after a blaze spread quickly from a single unit.
Toronto Fire Platoon Chief Roy Law talked about what caused the fire, in the Don Mills Road and Finch Avenue area, to spread.
“There was a family that was in the unit, they were awoken by the cracking of the fire, it does have a smoke alarm in the building, but they are unsure whether it was working,” Law said. “They got out safely.”
There were no injuries but officials estimate the total damage at over $250,000.
