TORONTO, Ont. – Ontario Provincial Police will be out in full force over the long weekend, patrolling roads and waterways trying to promote safety.

The officers will be focusing on impaired, distracted and aggressive drivers, as well as targeting those who are not wearing seatbelts.

Officers will also be looking out for anyone speeding, taking advantage of their airplane as an eye in the sky.

Road deaths are up approximately 25 per cent this year, according to the OPP.

More than 200 people have died in crashes on the province’s highways so far this year, compared with 162 fatalities by the same time in 2011.

There have also been several drownings this summer, with a number of them involving children.
