TORONTO, Ont. – Eighty-seven babies will be tested for tuberculosis, after a nurse tested positive for the disease at a Toronto hospital.
The Toronto Star reports the potential exposure happened the Scarborough Hospital’s General Campus.
The babies, who stayed in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit between April 1 and July 18, need to be tested as a precaution.
The Star reports the nurse did report her symptoms as soon as she felt sick, but a preliminary test did not reveal the disease.
With the symptoms being so minimal, she was allowed to continue work.
The nurse stopped work after a secondary test confirmed the TB infection, however.
