TORONTO, Ont. – She was tense, she was testy.

There were some heated moments between the opposition parties and the health minister at the committee looking into Ontario’s scandal-plagued Ornge air ambulance service.

Ontario health minister Deb Matthews has continued to say mistakes were made but they’re being fixed and she’s pushing the public accounts committee to finish its work.

Meanwhile, it’s clear there’s no love lost between Matthews and Conservative MPP Frank Klees.

“The honourable thing for you to do is admit your failure and step aside as minister of health,” Klees stated.

Matthews accuses Klees of making things up.

“You have repeatedly made allegations, that upon further reflection, turn out to be erroneous and that is having a negative impact on the front-line staff,” Matthews said.

Matthews was recalled to clarify testimony made by Orange’s ex-CEO Chris Mazza who claims he would have cooperated if only she had asked.

Matthews said Mazza fudged the numbers and refused to meet with her face to face.

She’s agreed to return to testify for a third time. Matthews will resume testifying at Public Accounts Committee investigating Ornge at 530 p.m., Tuesday.

Mazza has refused to make a second appearance.
