Owners of several Hyundai vehicle-lines are being notified about a recall, with more than 220,000 North American vehicles involved.

An estimated 32,000 of those vehicles are in Canada.

One of the recalls involves certain 2012 and 2013 Sonata’s, with the other targeting a number of Santa Fe SUVs built between 2007 and 2008.

Both recalls involve problems with the airbags. In the Sonata’s, there have been reports that some side airbags have gone off without warning.

An estimated 1,900 vehicles are affected in Canada. Hyundai dealers are expected to notify owners and replace the air bags free of charge.

In the Santa Fe’s, the advanced airbag system is designed to detect a small child sitting in the passenger seat and deactivate the airbag in that case.

However, Hyundai says an error could cause the system to turn off when a small adult is in the seat as well.

Hyundai has received 16 complaints so far, but no injuries have been reported.

Should you own a potentially effected vehicle and are unsure whether you are included in the recall, it’s recommended you bring your car to a local Hyundai dealership.
