TORONTO, Ont. – A visitation will be held Friday for 14-year-old Shyanne Charles — one of the two young people killed in the mass shooting in the city’s east end on July 16.

Her funeral will be held Saturday. Below are the details:

  • Visitation: Highland Funeral Home in Scarborough, Friday 6-9 p.m.
  • Funeral: Highland Funeral Home’s chapel, Saturday 10 a.m.-noon. Internment will take place at Pine Ridge Memorial Gardens in Ajax.


The family is requesting that white attire be word for both the visitation and the service.

A funeral was held for the second shooting victim, 23-year-old Joshua Yasay, from Ajax.

Several hundred people gathered in St. Francis de Sales parish in Ajax for his funeral. Most people in attendance knew Joshua or his family, but some people who did not know either victims of the shooting came out to pay their respects.

Yasay was a York University graduate and wanted to be a police officer.

Both Charles and Yasay when shots were fired into a crowd of more than 100 people attending a block party on Danzig Street, located in the Morningside Avenue and Lawrence Avenue East area.
