The Mayor’s office is reacting to the release of a photo of a smiling Rob Ford posing with a former neo-Nazi musician, reports the Toronto Sun.
The picture’s caption, posted on the Facebook profile of John Latvis, claims Latvis met with the mayor to get support for the Latvian homeguard. Ford is wearing his chain of office in the photo.
In a statement released by Ford’s press secretary, the picture was taken in January during the New Year’s Levee, but says the man used a different name and the Mayor was unaware of the allegations that Latvis made racist or hateful comments.
The statement also says Ford is strongly supportive of Toronto’s Jewish community and strongly deplores antisemitism in any form.
