TORONTO, Ont. – The Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Excellence in Ontario Wines are honouring the highest quality of bottled wine in the province.
Over 250 wines were submitted to be judged this year from 73 wineries. All are VQA wines, meaning they are made with 100 per cent Ontario grown and processed grapes.
All of the 11 winning wines came from Niagara — despite the fact some excellent wines are coming out of Lake Erie North Shore Wineries, near Windsor, and in Prince Edward County, near Belleville.
Among the winners: Tawse 2010 Sketches Riesling and 2008 Inniskillin Riesling Icewine. Click here for the full list.
A group of the province’s leading wine experts judged the wines and the winners will be honoured at a reception Thursday evening at Queen’s Park.
