BARRIE, Ont. – A water search for a nine-year-old girl thought to be missing has been called off after she was located safe and sound at her home.
The marine unit, OPP and Barrie Police had been searching Johnson’s Bay in Lake Simcoe for a young girl who they thought was missing in the water, Wednesday, after two children alerted a lifeguard to say they had seen their new friend go under water without resurfacing, just before 4 p.m.
Around the same time, another Barrie resident had called police to indicate that the girl they were looking for matched her daughter’s description. She had taken her for a day at the beach and let her swim out.
The search was suspended after divers using vessel cameras and sonar equipment turned up nothing.
Police believe there are no drowning victims in this incident.
