Typhoon Vicente causes flight delays in Hong Kong

A destructive typhoon is causing some major problems for travellers, including a few hundred Canadians trying to get home from Hong Kong.

Typhoon Vicente hit early Tuesday morning, bringing heavy rain and gale force winds.

Flights have been severely affected for various airlines, including at Cathay Pacific.

Sarge Sahansra of Woodbridge, Ont., tweeted his troubles to 680News in Toronto and said he’s with a group of very frustrated Canadians.

“They didn’t give us the information — that was the frustrating part. They kept telling us ‘we don’t have any more information’ two hours later. Next thing you know, you look at the board. Two hours late went to six hours,” Sahansra said.

On its website, Cathay Pacific said there are widespread delays and is urging travellers to check their flights before heading out to the airport.
