Summer is stunting children’s development, study shows

A study out of McMaster University says children from rich, educated families tend to become better readers over the summer because they spend more time with their literate parents.

The survey showed that students from lower income families learn less during summer months, in what researchers have labelled the ‘summer setback’ in literacy.

According to The Toronto Star, there are 60 summer literacy camps targeting low-income students who are reading below grade level.
