Toronto’s condo boom to blame for hospital overcrowding

The influx of condo towers in downtown Toronto is putting the squeeze on hospital row.

The head of emergency medicine at the University of Health Network said Princess Margaret, Toronto Western, Toronto General and Toronto Rehab are seeing a 5 to 10 per cent increase in emergency room patients each year.

This has lead to overcrowding and a lack of beds for patients, The Star has reported.

A Professor of Planning at Ryerson University said services have failed to keep up with the downtown population boom.
