TORONTO, Ont – Police have made an arrest in connection with a mass shooting in Scarborough.
19-year-old Nahom Tsegazab, of Toronto, has been charged with Reckless Discharge of a Firearm in connection with the shooting at a community barbecue on Danzig Street that killed two people and injured 23 others.
Police say Tsegazab had been considered a person of interest and was injured in the shooting.
“This person was injured Monday evening and was in hospital. His charge is in relation to the reckless discharge of a firearm and that’s in relation to the victims that were struck by bullets not in relation to the homicides,” Constable Wendy Drummond told CityNews.
14-year-old Shyanne Charles and 23-year-old Joshua Yasay died after gunfire erupted at an outdoor community barbecue on July 16. A total of 25 people were shot, including the two who died and a 22-month-old who was grazed by a bullet. Another person was trampled.
It has been called the worst shooting in Toronto’s history.
