TORONTO, Ont. – A community meeting will be held in the Danzig Street and Morningside area, two days after a mass shooting took the lives of two young people, and wounded 23 others.

The meeting will take place at 8:30 p.m., Wednesday.

Community leader and politician Senator Reverend Don Meredith told CityNews Channel, he lived in that area at one time, and it needs help.

“There’s a lot of poverty within this neighbourhood and we need to make sure that we’re working with all levels of government to ensure that the resources are brought back here. Creating jobs for our young people. Our government is on the track to create economic stability, jobs and growth and low taxes, again, putting people to work.”

Premier Dalton McGuinty has confirmed that he and Mayor Rob Ford will sit down with Police Chief Bill Blair Monday afternoon at 2 p.m.

On Thursday night night 680News, CityNews and CityNews Channel will broadcast a special live one hour program examining the issue of safety and gun violence in Toronto. The special will begin at 7 pm ET.
