TORONTO, Ont. -Toronto’s acting Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Barbara Yaffe, has terminated the extreme heat alert in the city.
The warm weather is expected to continue until approximately Wednesday however, with scattered showers possible Sunday.
It is expected to feel hot for the remainder of the weekend as well, with temperatures possibly 30′s and humidex values expected to reach the 40 C mark.
“As the ridge of high pressure holds, we’ll have that blazing hot sunshine through the weekend, and the UV index will be high,” said CityNews meteorologist Harold Hosein.
John Klisch, from Toronto EMS, has some advice if you’re going to b spending time outside.
“Drink lots of fluids, it’s the simplest thing you can do. Our body’s way of getting rid of the heat is to sweat, so stay hydrated,” Klisch said.
“Protect yourself from the sun if you’re vulnerable.”
Klisch also noted that the first few signs of overheating can be very subtle.
“It may be something like a mild headache, maybe a little bit of lethargy or tiredness, and it might start to progress to nausea or cramps,” Klisch said.
Should you feel any of these symptoms you are advised to get out of the sun, drink fluids and find a cool area.
