TORONTO, Ont. – Versatile swingman Landry Fields is now officially a Toronto Raptor, after the New York Knicks declined to match an offer sheet to the third-year player.

The Knicks had until midnight Saturday to match the three-year, $19-million deal the Raps had offered to Fields.

Fields, a third-year guard-forward known for his solid defence and shooting, is expected to compete for playing time on the wing with the Toronto Raptors.

Whether head coach Dwane Casey intends to play Fields at shooting guard or small forward is still unknown, although it’s likely he’ll see time at both spots.

Fields got off to an impressive rookie season, but struggled last year as his averages were down across the board.

It’s expected the Raptors will call upon him to play tough defence, rebound the ball and space the floor with long-range shooting.

The Raptors now appear crowded on the wing, with DeMar DeRozan, new draft pick Terrence Ross, newly-signed Fields and incumbent small-forward James Johnson all in the picture.
