TORONTO, Ont. – The 40th annual Festival of India has rolled into Toronto for the weekend, bringing a mixture of culture, food and arts to the city.

The event began with a parade down Yonge Street, beginning at Bloor Street and ending at Queen’s Quay.

The parade featured floats, dancers and music with a distinctly Indian flavour.

Following the parade the celebrations moved to Centre Island, where two days of festivities and celebrations are expected to draw nearly 40,000 people.

The festival is open to the public and free, including a vegetarian feast, an arts and culture show, a South Asian bazaar and a giant spiritual yoga festival.

Other events and attractions on Centre Island include an outdoor pavilion, face painting and a children’s area.
