Two children have died after being pulled from the water in Port Burwell.

OPP say they were called to the location after a report that three youths were in crisis in the water.  Police say one youth was rescued and conscious, while the two others were pulled from the water unresponsive.

A 7-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl were transported to hospital in London by air ambulance in serious condition. They later died of their injuries.

OPP constable Aaron McPhail told 680News the main beach at Port Burwell was extremely busy at the time of the incident.

“The water was calm. They were swimming with other people in the area so we are still working on the process to determine exactly what did occur. We do know that a lot of people that were in the area did assist with the search, in one case, for the 10-year-old girl, created a human chain in the water to find her, as she was underneath the water,” he explained

Constable McPhail said the water was between one to three feet deep.

Police say the two children were brother and sister. Their names have not been released.
