The forecast for next week is for higher temperatures than this week and the humidex readings are expected to go into the 40s.
Co-incidently, Toronto council has instructed staff to look into amending the municipal code to set a maximum allowable room temperature, possibly resulting in forcing landlords to provide air conditioning in all units.
Some renters have questions.
“I think it’s a good idea since it gets very warm very quickly,” a Toronto resident who rents named Robin told 680News. “But I think that ultimately the landlord isn’t going to pay for it, we are.”
Others said requiring air conditioning in every rental unit would only increase the burden on the electrical grid, increasing the pollution associated with power generation.
