TORONTO, Ont. – The man charged in connection with five sexual assaults at and around York University will make another court appearance, Friday for a bail hearing.

Oshane Leach made a brief appearance in court Wednesday for the second consecutive day, where his bail hearing was postponed until Friday.

20-year-old Leach, is facing three counts of sexual assault, two counts of criminal harassment and two counts of assault. He was arrested on Monday.

The assaults happened within a two-day period last Thursday and Friday outside Vari Hall, which is a meeting place for students in the centre of the campus, as well as off-campus in the Finch and Sentinel area.

In all five cases, the suspect approached the women, started up a conversation and then touched them as they walked away.

On Monday, a fifth woman came forward and told police she had also been approached by a man who struck up a conversation and then groped her as she walked away. In this case, police said the accused had been criminally harassing her by following and communicating with her on a number of occasions over the past month.

Police believe there may be more victims.

Meanwhile, York University is reassuring students its Keele campus is safe after boosting security.

The university’s deputy spokesperson Janice Walls said the university has stepped up both foot and car patrols through the weekend and posted security bulletins across campus.

The university has had security issues in the past. In July 2011, a man was charged after two women were attacked in a students’ residence.

Several months before that, a woman was attacked by three men in a wooded area near the school.
