Scientists held a mock funeral in Ottawa, Tuesday, to mourn cuts to research programs at government agencies, including at Statistics Canada.
The event has been organized by the Council of Canadians.
The Council says scientific evidence plays a key role in guiding politicians’ decisions, but it has been silenced because of a “series of severe injuries”.
As a result, a former director of the University of Ottawa’s Institute of Environment believes the “death of evidence is a cause for national mourning.”
