It is a big day for the people of Markham. The country’s largest town has officially become a city.
City council approved the status change in May.
Mayor Frank Scarpitti said the municipal upgrade will help Markham attract international investment.
Markham’s population currently stands at over 300,000 and the city is in the middle of a condo boom.
