If you ever wondered how construction will affect your drive or why crews are digging up your street, a new webpage will answer your questions.

The City of Toronto launched T.O. INview Tuesday, a new interactive web-based mapping system that gives locations and details of planned capital projects that are scheduled for construction in 2012, particularly construction that will affect city streets.

“It’s possible to zoom in on individual streets and by selecting the street a pop-up window will appear,” Director of Infrastructure Coordination Jeff Climans told 680News.

The mapping tool allows users to quickly identify different types of construction and contacts for further information.

T.O. INview keeps the public informed and allows the city to coordinate projects with hydro, gas and cable utility companies.

“So there are fewer instances in which work is proceeding without the left hand knowing what the right hand is doing,” Climans said.

In the past, the city has resurfaced roads only to have utility companies cut holes in the street to upgrade and repair their equipment.

So far, Rogers, Cogego Data, Toronto Hydro, Hydro One and Enbridge are sharing information for the webpage.

INview was developed and launched at no extra cost to taxpayers using existing city staff and resources.
