TORONTO, Ont. – Police say the victim was known in the area, and was playing basketball a short time before being shot to death in East Toronto.

Homicide detectives are investigating after a 30-year-old man was killed in the parking lot of a Scarborough apartment complex.

While the identity has not been confirmed by police, CityNews spoke to the man’s father and confirmed the victim is Ricardo Vincent.

“My son’s life was cut short by someone who obviously doesn’t respect life,” Norris Vincent told CityNews.

“All I can say is I just want people to come forward so that person will be held accountable for my son’s death.”

It’s alleged the man was shot on Glamorgan Avenue, in the Kennedy and Ellesmere Roads area, after an argument broke out among five to seven men.

Police believe the men knew each other but did not speculate on a motive, outside of noting that an argument took place.

“A loud argument was overheard by many of the residents in the area followed by a number of gun shots,” said Det. Sgt. Vanderheyden.

One area resident told 680News what he heard.

“We heard gunshots, at least three initially, and then a slight pause and then two more,” he said.

Toronto EMS told 680News the victim was located suffering from two gunshot wounds.

He was without vital signs when emergency officials arrived on scene, and was transported to hospital where police say he died of his injuries.

“Ricardo was a very good son — a peaceful, loving person,” Norris Vincent said.

Police say they believe they are searching for one gunman. The other men included in the argument are being considered persons of interest or witnesses, at this point.

Det. Sgt. Vanderheyden said police have collected video footage of two vehicles leaving the parking lot at very high speeds through the driveway.

“At this point the first vehicle is a small, dark vehicle. We are going to have the video enhanced to look at it. We may actually have license plates. The second vehicle looks to be a white four-door. It’s possibly a Honda Accord or an Acura,” said Det. Sgt. Vanderheyden.

A number of people were also seen fleeing the area on foot. Police believe those people saw or overheard what happened and are asking them to come forward with any information.

Det. Sgt. Vanderheyden said the victim’s name is not being released at this time but that he was familiar to the area and that he had family living in the area. The victim’s vehicle was parked in the parking lot at the time of the shooting.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact them directly or through Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477), online at www.222tips.com, text TOR and your message to CRIMES (274637).
