TORONTO, Ont. – The dog rescued from the Gardiner Expressway after it was freed from an SUV in a parking lot on Queen’s Quay has been reunited with it’s owners.

There has been no word on it charges will be laid against the owners.

Animal Control freed the dog from a parked SUV at a parking lot at the Loblaws at Queens Quay and Jarvis around 1 p.m.

The animal panicked, got loose from the leash and ran up an off-ramp onto the Gardiner Expressway, shutting down the highway.

Animal Services secured the dog shortly thereafter and then took the frightened animal to be checked over by a veterinarian.

CityNews reported that the owners returned to their vehicle shortly after 5 p.m. but would not speak to the press.

Toronto police said they have responded to 152 calls so far this week of dogs being left in a parked car.
