TORONTO, Ont. – A ballerina, a couple of musicians and an entire hockey team will highlight the latest inductees into Canada’s Walk of Fame.

Along with musicians Randy Bachman and Sarah McLachlan, this year’s list of honorees will include an entire sports team, the famed 1972 Team Canada.

“They had an uphill battle to defeat the Russians, it was a defining moment for our country,” said Walk of Fame President and Founding Director Peter Soumalias.

“It was the first time that I can recall, having lived in Canada all my life, that the entire nation came together,” Soumalias added.

“Sarah McLachlan is a brilliant musician and Randy Bachman has been doing it now for almost 50-years, and they’re both going to attend, and we hope they’re both going to play as well, so we’re a little excited about that,” Soumalias said.

Other athletes include hall-of-fame CFL quarterback Russ Jackson, who played his entire twelve year career with the Ottawa Rough Riders.

The Walk of Fame will also hand the Cineplex Legends Award to the late Phil Hartman, known for his work on Saturday Night Live.

“Phil has an incredible story, some of it of course is very tragic, but most of it is very celebratory, there was so much to his creativity that was beyond Saturday Night Live and The Simpsons,’ Soumalias said.

Ballerina Sonia Rodriguez will also be added to the walk this year.

The organization received just under 12-million responses through social media sites this year, including a few that were a little unrealistic.

“Justin Bieber I’m sure some day will be on the Walk of Fame, however not yet, he still has a few more years ahead of him to meet the qualifying criteria of a 10-year career,” Soumalias said.

The inductees will receive their stars on Saturday, September 22 at Ed Mirvish Theatre.
