TORONTO, Ont. – The northbound lanes of the Don Valley Parkway have now re-opened, after a serious two-car crash early Sunday morning sent five people to hospital.
Police believe one of the drivers may have fled the scene on foot, with police dogs being called in to help with the search.
Paramedics treated five people on the scene, with three taken on backboards while the other two were able to walk. One of the injured parties has life-threatening injuries.
Emergency personnel said afterward its hard to believe more of the injuries were not more serious, with the trunk of one of the cars being pushed up through the rear window.
One eyewitness spoke to 680News after being on the DVP shortly after the crash happened around 4 a.m. Sunday.
“There were numerous girls, more than ten girls I could count, and a few of them were laying on the ground,” he said.
The northbound lanes of the DVP were closed between Bayview-Bloor and Don Mills for more than seven hours.
