THAILAND (NEWS1130) – Police are investigating after a pair of Canadian sisters were found dead in a hotel room in Thailand.
The Phuket Gazette quotes the Phi Phi Island police, saying they received a report last night about two bodies being found in a hotel room.
A cousin in Quebec has identified the women as Audrey Belanger, 20, and 26-year-old Noemi Belanger. They may have checked into the Phi Phi Palms Residence on Tuesday.
Hotel staff say the pair went out Tuesday night, but stayed in their room all day Wednesday. By Friday, hotel staff became concerned and went check on them. Police say it’s believed the women had died nearly 12 hours before their bodies were found.
There were no visible signs of trauma, according to police, and poisoning is being investigated as a cause of death.
In a similar case in 2009, an American woman and a Norwegian woman died after suffering severe vomiting and dehydration at a guesthouse in the same area.
