TORONTO, Ont. – A vote by Toronto District School Board trustees Wednesday night has resulted in a decision to cut down on money-losing school eateries.
With the closure of 30-plus school cafeterias in the fall, the board is expected to save $600,000 in the new school year.
A confidential report obtained by the Toronto Star says more than 30 school cafeterias in Toronto make less than $250 a day.
According to the report, two of Toronto’s school cafeterias (Bloor Collegiate and Highland Junior school) bring in just about $35 a day.
For this school year alone, the board expects to incur a shortfall of $1.2 million in revenues from school cafs.
It is not known when the list of cafeterias will be made public.
