TORONTO, Ont. – A woman and her one-and-a-half-year-old child are recovering in hospital from smoke inhalation after a fire at an apartment building on Weston Road, Wednesday.
The fire broke out at around 3:30 a.m. on a 14th-floor balcony at 1765 Weston Rd., south of Lawrence Avenue.

The apartment building was evacuated, but residents have since returned to their units.
Police officers, who were first on the scene, ran into the apartment to make sure no one else was inside and then tried to douse the flames.
Two police officers were treated on the scene for smoke inhalation.
