TORONTO, Ont. – Soccer fans packed into many downtown Toronto bars Sunday afternoon, hoping to watch their favourite European team take victory on day three of the Euro Cup.
The big match of the day features returning champion Spain, a favourite to win the 2012 Euro Cup, playing Italy in a Group C matchup.
Spain is aiming to be the first international team to win three major competitions in a row, after winning the Euro Cup in 2008 and the 2010 World Cup.
Fans could be spotted wearing body and face paint, soccer jerseys and clothing matching the colours of their favourite country.
The second match of the day will see Ireland take on Croatia.
Several downtown bars were at capacity long before the first game got underway. One of the most popular areas for fans is the College Street and Dundas Avenue area, which has many popular bars and hangouts.
