Students at Ontario’s Catholic schools perform better than public school students: Study

Students at Ontario’s Catholic schools are performing better than those in the province’s public schools, according to a new study conducted by the C.D. Howe Institute.

Released Thursday, the report shows that nearly two thirds of the top 29 schools in the province are Catholic.

The study also finds that students who attend a middle school starting in grade six, do not do as well as students in other elementary schools.

Produced every three years, the study compares grade three and six test scores from Ontario’s 4,000 public and Catholic schools, but it also takes demographic barriers into account, such as the education level of the parents and those who are newcomers to Canada.
