Rain, hail and wild, windy weather hits southern Ontario

TORONTO, Ont. – Some wild weather made its way through parts of Southern Ontario Wednesday, with thunderstorm warnings being issued for much of the GTA.

A tornado warning was initially issued for Huntsville and Baysville and other areas north of the city and in cottage country. The warning, however, was called off after any potential tornadoes dissipated.

Further, a severe thunderstorm warning had been in place from Kitchener-Waterloo through to Guelph and Orangeville. Within the GTA, Pickering and Oshawa were also under a thunderstorm warning with hail and strong wings feared.

The warning extended well east of the GTA into Lindsay, Kawartha Lakes and Belleville, where heavy rains were reported.

In Guelph, heavy rain and hail left the fields and streets drenched. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, however.

Meanwhile, a thunderstorm watch had been in place for the area from Niagara through Hamilton and into Caledon, and even as far north as Barrie.

The severe weather was expected to bring heavy downpours and even hail in the GTA area. The weather is expected to settle overnight with more severe weather possible for later Thursday.
