Story correction: Liberals considering filing complaint to Elections Canada

A story on 680News.com dated June 5, 2012 contained some inaccuracies.

The article should have said the Liberals are considering a complaint to Elections Canada after voters in the federal riding of Etobicoke Centre reportedly received robocalls ahead of a possible byelection.

Ahead of a possible by-election, the Conservatives reportedly sent out calls saying a court decision has taken away votes and that Liberal Borys Wrzesnewskyj is trying to overthrow the election result from last May.

Interim Liberal Leader Bob Rae said the party may make a complaint to Elections Canada.

He also said it’s unacceptable.

“It shows a lack of understanding of the judicial process,” Rae said. “We’ve got to wait until the Supreme Court makes its decision, but the way in which this is being handled by the Conservatives is just completely inappropriate.”

Rae said the federal Liberals may file a formal complaint.

The incumbent Wrzesnewskyj had lost to Conservative Ted Opitz by only 26 votes.

Last month, an Ontario judge found too many voting irregularities and threw out the results. It is now before the Supreme Court.
