Actress Glenn Close is the latest celebrity to speak out about mental illness.

“Little did I know that it is the last, perhaps, most challenging civil and human rights issue of our time,” said Close in Ottawa on Monday.

Mental illness is something Close deals with first hand, as it has affected several of her family members, including her sister and nephew.

Saying that mental disorder is the last, but most challenging frontier in the right for civil rights, Close is determined to fight stereotypes concerning patients with psychological, emotional or behavioural illnesses

The ‘Fatal Attraction’ movie star hopes to use her name and image to bring up the prejudices that keep the mentally ill from getting the treatment that they need, by telling one story at a time.
