TORONTO, Ont. – Maya’s March is an annual 5km walk designed to raise money for Sick Kids Hospital and research on Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD), a rare genetic disorder affecting the lungs, throat, ears and sinuses.

Named after Maya Murphy, a six-year-old Toronto girl with PCD, the march raises money for research at Sick Kids Hospital on the disorder.

Because the disorder is so uncommon, little is known about it making treatment and diagnosis difficult. As a matter of fact, the PCD clinic at Sick Kids Hospital is the only one operating in the country.

The walk takes participants from Conlins Road in Scarborough down Old Kingston Road to Lawson Road, before travelling through Colonel Danforth Park, up Old Kingston Road and then back along Military Trail to the starting point.

The walk will be followed by a performance by a live band as well as a silent auction.

Maya’s March raised $13,000 last year and organizers hope to raise $15,000 this year.
