BC Ferries resumes sailings between Vancouver Island and mainland

VANCOUVER – BC Ferries says sailings have now resumed between Vancouver Island and the province’s mainland.

The service was forced to cancel an afternoon sailing between Nanaimo, B.C., and West Vancouver, B.C, and an evening return trip because of a security incident.

Spokeswoman Deborah Marshall says about 600 people were taken off the Queen of Coquitlam just after 3 p.m. but had to leave their vehicles on board.

Marshall says police dogs then searched the vessel.

BC Ferries announced that service would resume with a 7:30 p.m. sailing between Nanaimo and West Vancouver.
