OTTAWA, Ont. – Several MP’s say they are looking for a security review on Parliament Hill, after bloodied human body parts were mailed to Conservative Party headquarters.

A Canada-wide warrant has been issued for Luka Rocco Magnotta, 29, in connection with the case, which saw one package containing a severed hand and the other a severed foot.

NDP Public Safety critic Randall Garrison told Rogers Radio News these types of incidents never happen in Canadian politics, and as a result, it’s time to step up security.

“I’m hoping we never see them again. That doesn’t mean that there aren’t more security measures we should take,” he said.

“Incidents like this certainly make us reflect on that, and I certainly hope that the situation ends there,” added the NDP’s Peter Julian.

Packages coming to Parliament Hill have to go through secondary screening. However, the protocol is different for constituency and party offices.

Other MP’s have disagreed, saying there is no need to change because this was an isolated incident and the knee jerk reaction is unnecessary.

“You can’t protect yourself against every crazy,” explained government whip Gordon O’Connor, saying there are enough protocols

Nonetheless, many on Parliament Hill are disgusted and cannot get past the gruesome discovery.

“Honestly, like most people I don’t know what to think,” said Liberal Justin Trudeau. “I think it’s absolutely horrific that someone would pick a political party to send a body part to.”

“I find this whole story very disturbing, very macabre,” added NDP MP Charlie Angus. “I have no way to place it, just like any other Canadian.”

The Conservative Party itself, meanwhile, is not saying if it will take a second look at security, but it does plan to assess the incidents which took place.
