TORONTO, Ont. – Another high-profile Las Vegas casino is considering setting up shop in Toronto, Ont.

Representatives from Caesars Entertainment Corp. will be visiting the city next week. The company already has a casino in Windsor.

According to published reports, Caesars is interested in building a casino at Exhibition Place or on the waterfront, and has already registered four lobbyists at city hall.

Caesars executive vice-president Jan Jones told the Toronto Sun the company is prepared to invest about $1 billion in Toronto.

MGM, owner of the famed Bellagio in Las Vegas and other luxury casino resorts around the world, is also eyeing a move to Toronto.

MGM confirmed they would not build a resort at Ontario Place, but would consider a casino at the Exhibition Place or the Port Lands. Such a casino resort would require a $3-billon to $5-billion investment from the company.

Earlier this year, the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. issued a request for information (RFI) from private companies interested in operating casinos or other gambling sites in the province. Companies have until mid-summer to express their interest to the OLG.

In recent weeks, Toronto councillors have been debating whether to bring a casino the city. Councillor Adam Vaughan proposed no casinos in Toronto without a referendum, and Councillor Mike Layton wants Ontario Place to be casino free.
