TORONTO, Ont. – There’s a lot going on in the city this weekend, including several events and a TTC subway closure.

Also, it’s the Memorial Day long weekend in the United States, with many Americans heading north to Canada and vice-versa. Border wait times

One of the events is Doors Open Toronto, which will give people an opportunity to check out more than 135 buildings, which are considered either architecturally, historically, culturally and socially significant.

This year’s additions include the TIFF Bell Lightbox and the Artscape Distillery Studios. As well, Fort York will open its doors to visitors interested in marking the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812.

Also, Councillor Michael Thompson told CityNews the event includes a secret elevator ride to the top of City Hall.

Admission to Doors Open Toronto is free.

Other events include the Colon Cancer “Push for Your Tush” Walk/Run, Toronto Taste, the World Partnership Walk and Kensington Market Pedestrian Sunday. Road closures will be in effect for these events.

Toronto Taste will close Queen’s Park in both directions from Bloor Street to the top end of Queen’s Park Circle from Saturday at 8 p.m. to Monday at 6 a.m.

The World Partnership Walk will close portions of King and Simcoe streets on Sunday between 10:45 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. University Avenue will also be closed from Wellington Street to Queen’s Park Circle during that walk.

Also, parts of Augusta Avenue, Baldwin Street, Kensington Avenue and St. Andrew Street will be closed on Sunday from noon to 7:30 p.m. for Kensington Market Pedestrian Sunday.

Outside of Toronto, the Carassauga Festival takes place in Mississauga. The “festival of cultures” event runs from Friday to Sunday.

Other events include the Cardiac Health Foundation’s Walk of Life at the Evergreen Brickworks, while the eighth annual Great Strides Walk to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis is taking place at the Toronto Zoo.

Also, there will be no subway service this weekend between Bloor and Union stations on the Yonge-University-Spadina line. Details here
