OTTAWA, Ont-As her remarkable recovery from a double lung transplant continues, Barrhaven’s Hélène Campbell was a special guest of 1310News Saturday morning, looking to the future.
Hélène says, depending on how her recovery goes, she should be back in her hometown in the next three to six months.
“I am looking forward to coming home to Ottawa because home is where the heart is and I certainly miss everyone back there.”
The incredibly upbeat 21-year-old told 1310News there was really no choice but to remain positive throughout her journey.
“I can mope and complain about the situation I am in but it won’t really help the situation I am in. Being upset about my lungs won’t change the quality of them. It would just make me more miserable going through what I was going through so being positive was a coping strategy,” she said.
Hélène is hoping to be back in the capital for the Hope Beach Volleyball Tournament in July. If she is not able, she will have a team there, hoping to set a world record for the most people doing her dance that she is making famous.
She says her work on the campaign is far from over. She is hoping to take part in the last trek of a Torch of Life relay. It ends in Toronto June 19 and Hélène hopes to be able to carry the torch that day.
She also has tentative plans for some kind of event on Canada Day.
“We’re just dreaming big with this, one step at a time, but the Torch of Life is my next step,” she said.
Our news anchors Tom Pechloff and Lynda Steele tried out Hélène’s “donor dance” during the live interview.
