HAWKESBURY, Ont. – Two people have been killed after a fire occurred at the Place Mont Roc retirement home in Hawkesbury.
Emergency crews from surrounding municipalities including Ottawa Paramedics were called to the retirement home around 9:30 p.m. Friday, according to The Ottawa Citizen.
Ottawa Paramedics told 680News, a doctor was on hand to assist paramedics but two were pronounced dead on scene. They also told 680News that two firefighters suffered smoke inhalation and were taken to hospital.
The Ottawa Citizen has reported two residents were also taken to hospital for minor injuries, and another three later showed up seeking medical help.
Police have identified the victims as Anne-Marie Bonin, 84, and Jean-Paul Bonin, 87.
The cause of the fire is still unknown.
The residents were all transported to another retirement home or will be staying with family.
