TORONTO, Ont. – There were major delays present on the eastbound Highway 401 between Brock Road in Pickering and Westney Road in Ajax after a major accident Saturday.
Reports indicate a tractor trailer caught flame and went over the barrier at the Church Street underpass, after colliding with an SUV.
Police say the tractor trailer was “dangling” over Church Street, which runs underneath Highway 401.
Several of the eastbound lanes have since been re-opened, but with emergency crews working to clear the mess a major backlog was created along Highway 401 in the Ajax-Pickering area.
Church Street was also closed along with several entrance and exit ramps in the area.
The resulting closures were expected to last several hours.
