TORONTO, Ont. – Toronto police have reportedly decided to put undercover operations that target sex trade customers on hold until prostitution laws are clarified by the Supreme Court.
The federal government has appealed to the Supreme Court to clarify the law because it is at the moment — given the recent Ontario Court of Appeal rulings — very unclear.
Toronto police old the Toronto Sun officers won’t be deploying resources going after the “communication for the purposes of sex” part of the law.
Defense lawyer Calvin Barry told 680News that there is pressure on the Supreme Court to resolve the ambiguity quickly.
However, police spokesperson Mark Pugash told the Sun that police will continue to investigate illegal massage parlors and escort agencies.
