Toronto group ‘Raise 5’ global winner of Richard Branson’s “Screw Business as Usual” competition

Sir Richard Branson and his non-profit foundation Virgin Unite have announced Toronto’s Raise 5 as the global winner of the 2012 “Screw Business as Usual” competition.

Raise 5 is a fundraising platform which allows individuals to support their favourite causes by raising five dollars at a time.

Company founder Mike Tang said he wanted to create a new way to give back to the community which was fun and convenient, and he is looking forward to taking it to the next step with Branson.

Joining Richard in South Africa, Raise 5 will be sharing ideas with young entrepreneurs at the Branson Centre of Entrepreneurship, as well as experience South African wildlife at Branson’s private game reserve.

Hundreds of entries were submitted throughout the competition, some of which included ideas for a solar-powered football, and the world’s most ethical plants.
