TORONTO, Ont. – There may have been a break in a six-month-long hunt for the armed robbers who made off with $1 million from an armoured car in Scarborough in November 2011.
Toronto police will provide details at a news conference Friday about raids on Thursday at a number of addresses in Toronto and York Region, which police now say are connected to that heist.
On Thursday, Toronto police Const. Tony Vella said the Organized Crime Task Force along with Toronto Anti-Violence Intervention Strategy (TAVIS) were involved in the raids.
Police have been looking for four suspects who overpowered two security guards in the process of making a delivery to the Royal Bank on Grangeway Avenue, near McCowan Road and Progress Avenue in Scarborough, on Nov. 18, 2011.
Police alleged three men — two pointing handguns and the third carrying a shotgun – jumped out of the bushes and ambushed the guards. A fourth suspect drove the getaway vehicle, a U-haul van.
Authorities also released security images of the suspect who allegedly rented the U-haul.
