A 40-year-old Mississauga mother has made her first court appearance to face murder charges in connection with the  death of her four-month-old son.

Corrine Platonov appeared via video and was remanded until May 24.

She has been ordered to have no contact with her husband, a Mississauga cardiologist, or her second child, CityNews Channel’s reported.

Police say they responded to a 911 call from a home on Golden Hills Way in Mississauga on May 9. When they arrived at the scene they found the child, Alexander Plantonov, deceased.

Corinne Platnov was arrested on scene.

Neighbours told CityNews they are shocked.

“It was a really good, happy family. I didn’t think this would have happened. The mother was really good with the kids, she’d be on the playground pushing them on the swings,” said one neighbour.

“I’m sure the father is devastated. It’s such a horrible thing to hear,” said another neighbour.

Const. Thivierge said police will investigate all possible motives.

“What was the situation in the residence, what was the situation in the residence, what was the mother’s demeanour, what was the child’s situation, were there any health concerns? There’s all sorts of information that needs to be looked at,” she said.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Thursday morning.
