A husband and wife in their 60s were on Highway 407 after they exited their vehicle in a live lane to check a flat tire, Tuesday.

OPP Sgt. Dave Woodford told CityNews George Devarajah, 69, and Eileen Devarajah, 65, were visiting Canada from England, and were supposed to return home on Tuesday.

CityNews reported they were visiting Canada for a relative’s birthday party.

They were both struck by a pickup truck at around 12:15 p.m. Monday on the westbound lanes near Yonge Street.

The westbound lanes of Highway 407 at Bayview Avenue were closed for several hours as police investigated.

Sgt. Dave Woodford told 680News it appears a man and a woman exited their vehicle after having some sort of mechanical trouble.

“A male and female got out. There were four total in the vehicle, two of them got out for whatever reason and were struck by another westbound vehicle,” he explained.

The victims were hit by a westbound pickup truck. Sgt. Woodford said the driver of the pick-up truck was not injured but transported to hospital as a precaution.

Police reminded drivers to remain in their vehicle and call for help if they are in trouble.
